UC Observatories Director of Development

THIS POSITION IS BASED AT UC SANTA CRUZ, SANTA CRUZ, CA

Under the direction of the UC Observatories Director and in consultation with the Executive Director of Sciences, the Director of Development serves in a lead role to strategically plan, develop, coordinate, implement and evaluate a major donor fundraising program to secure and increase philanthropic support from individuals, corporations, and foundations for the initiative/divisional priorities as determined by the UC Observatories Director and the Executive Director of Sciences. In consultation with the Executive Director of Sciences, the Director of Development will develop and implement donor strategy. The Director of Development will also support the Department of Astronomy and Astrophysics with fundraising needs.

The Director of Development’s major responsibilities will include managing the university’s relationship with current donors and prospective donors who give or are capable of giving at the $50,000 level or above. The Director of Development will prepare a strategic plan to develop and implement all components of a major gifts program with specific emphasis on initiating a plan to identify and qualify new prospects. The Director of Development will design and implement comprehensive strategies to identify, cultivate, and steward the highest capacity individuals, build engagement of these individuals, create gift opportunities based on initiative/divisional priorities, formulate and coordinate fundraising strategies, and determine appropriate stewardship plans for significant donors. The Director of Development will involve the trustees, other high-level volunteers, and academic leaders in connecting these donors to deepen their interest and involvement.

Lick Observatory Senior Custodian

THIS POSITION IS BASED AT LICK OBSERVATORY, MT HAMILTON, CA

Under supervision of the Lick Observatory Facilities Supervisor, the Senior Custodian performs semi-skilled and skilled cleaning duties at Lick Observatory on Mount Hamilton. Responsible for cleanliness of assigned areas, individually and as part of a team.

Lick Observatory Water System Monitor

THIS POSITION IS BASED AT LICK OBSERVATORY, MT HAMILTON, CA

Under the supervision of the Lick Observatory Facilities Supervisor, the incumbent takes measurements, records data and performs various other support tasks concerning the operation of the Lick Observatory Community Water Treatment System.

Technical Laboratories Manager

THIS POSITION IS BASED AT UC SANTA CRUZ, SANTA CRUZ, CA

The Technical Laboratories Manager serves as project manager for research instrumentation and related projects, or subsystem manager for a substantial portion of a major project within a partnership. The Technical Laboratories Manager establishes project plans, including schedule and budget. The incumbent tracks project performance toward technical and schedule milestones and budget plan, reports on project progress as required and represents UCO at project reviews and to partners and stakeholders. The Technical Laboratories Manager is responsible for planning, managing, administering, and supervising staff and facility resources. The incumbent reviews and approves recommendations for project plans, and delegates assignments to staff and subordinate managers. The Technical Laboratories Manager is involved in developing, modifying and executing policies that affect operations and working relationships with campus and external partners.
