VISIT LICK

The workshop will gather faculty from Bay Area community college and Cal State campuses, students who are leading astronomy projects, UC Observatories / Lick Observatory staff, and other astronomy partners to advance programs and projects run in collaboration with the ASTRAL consortium. Current consortium members are welcome, as well as individuals who are interested in becoming members. We expect to accommodate most applicants to the workshop.
This one-day workshop will be held off-mountain at the UCSC Silicon Valley Extension in Santa Clara on Saturday, November 8, 2025.
Goals of the workshop include:
  • Fostering collaboration and community within the consortium and across institutions
  • Sharing Lick Observatory-related accomplishments, such as observing projects, new curriculum, and programs
  • Supporting ASTRAL members’ needs and interests, e.g., through
    • Coordinating between programs and projects that support students’ advancement
    • Larger recognition of Lick-related projects and other efforts
    • Elevating campus astronomy resources, such as campus observatories, planetaria, and connections to Lick education and outreach
This workshop and the ASTRAL consortium are supported by a generous grant from the Gordon and Betty Moore Foundation.
